Never Lost in Translation

I recently had the pleasure and honor of being the opening keynote for a very tech-savvy conference. XTM Live, The Translation Technology Summit really made me appreciate the enormously important work this relatively young industry performs.

In today’s modern business world, it’s increasingly important to have a true global presence and a huge part of that process includes GILT – globalization, internationalization, localization and translation. Given the sheer volume of material and products that have to be dealt with, the people responsible for this work turn more and more to platforms that can leverage automation and AI in order to better utilize the human talent that makes this all possible. Does a certain color have negative connotations in another culture? Do certain words or phrases offend in another language? Does a gesture one culture takes for granted not make any sense in another? It’s a fascinating field that sure to play a growing role in our increasingly connected world.
